1981 - 1989
Television brought the West Course to the attentions of a worldwide audience through its continued hosting of the World Matchplay Championship. When in 1984 the European Tour’s flagship event came to Wentworth, it helped cement the Club’s reputation at the pinnacle of the professional game. The BMW Championship is now a spring fixture on golf’s calendar.
In 1983, the Amateur Championship returned for the second time to Wentworth’s West Course.
