Historic Timeline

Wentworth’s rich and varied history is a tribute to the talents and vision of several generations of extraordinary men and women. Were it not for developer Walter George Tarrant and his friend, golf course architect Harry Colt, Wentworth would not even exist. Tarrant saw the development potential of this beautiful site and possessed the skills and the business savvy to turn his visions into reality. Meanwhile, Colt was engaged to create two golf courses in this wooded, heathland setting, first the East and three years later the West. The Wentworth Estate was born, a sanctuary of handsome homes, quiet lanes and championship golf courses, all within touching distance of London. And the now world-renowned Wentworth Club was up and running.
