"Why I choose Wentworth Club"
As a family we could live anywhere in the world, but we choose Wentworth. It has been a huge part of our lives for years and one of the things we all love about living here is having access to the facilities at the Club. You know, every time I come here it feels special, but it also feels like home. For me, that’s what being a member of Wentworth is all about.
Obviously the golf’s a big attraction. It’s hard to believe I first came here about 15 years ago, but I remember clearly what an impact Wentworth had on me then. It’s such a beautiful location and the whole place has a warm and friendly atmosphere and I felt like the West Course was my kind of golf course. Nothing has changed my mind since. Winning six World Matchplay Championships has been fun, too!
At Wentworth we’re spoilt for golf, really. I mean, not only have you got the West, but also the East and the Edinburgh. Most golf clubs would love to have just one great course. But here we have three!
Obviously there’s more to Wentworth than golf. One of the great attractions of being a member here is that there are so many other facilities for the whole family to enjoy. And there’s the quality - basically, everything is top-notch.
Liezl and I both use the gym. You can’t beat it. It has all the latest equipment and it’s nice and light and airy in there. The club has a great team of personal trainers, including my own guy Josh Salzmann. Whenever I’m at home, I try to find time to see Josh. After my knee injury he helped get me in the best shape I’ve been since I left the army.
I’ve also been known to use the Spa. Being a professional I tend to get a few aches and pains – sadly, more than I’d like as I get closer to 40 – so it’s good to come here during my weeks off and get a massage. That helps loosen me up, and I’ll often go and hit balls afterwards.
Both of my kids love swimming. And although we have a pool at home, it’s outdoors which isn’t ideal in an English winter! They loves to use the stunning indoor pool at Wentworth. My daughter’s also had swimming lessons, which has given her even more confidence in the water. It’s lovely to see.
One of the other great things about Wentworth is the unique clubhouse. I’ve enjoyed a lot of nice meals here from a quick lunch to dinner in the Grill. And I don’t mind admitting I’ve had some good nights in the bar, as well. Too good, sometimes!
I feel lucky to be a member of Wentworth Club. To be honest, I don’t think there’s anywhere else like it. And as the Club’s Worldwide Touring Professional, it’s nice to be able to spread the word.
